Marienplatz 18, Munich
Definitely a highlight of Munich
Products are not bad, but unfortunately the service is not always very friendly. Street vending in particular makes you feel like the sellers are doing you a favor. It's a shame because it's actually a Munich institution.
The Kaiserschmarren is really delicious. This is currently also available "to-go". The portion is plentiful. I think the prices for winter drinks are a bit excessive.
Delicious Kaiserschmarrn. Nice service
Do yourself a favor, don't eat here
Always go there for coffee and cake. I also have to confess that the German cheese cake is way much better than the American one. Coffee is also not a barista coffee but rather a machine. But the quality was still good.
We visited this spot while walking around Marienplatz. We ordered a couple fresh pastries and two milchkaffe. Everything was delicious! This was my favorite coffee during our entire trip! We took our coffee on the patio outside as we watched locals and tourists stroll by. Great spot for a relaxing cup of coffee!
Waited 20 minutes no one gave us a menu or anything. Don’t come here total waste of time
Service very bad, We ordered three espresso machiato and got 3 latte machiato after half an hour. When we refused, because it was not our order, the waitress was angry and brazenly replied that we were not fair. We are waiting for our order for another half hour. I will never come here again.
Unfortunately the quality at Rischart is decreasing more and more !!! For the second time, I had the problem that my bread went moldy in no time! On the other hand, not bread from the farmers market at all! With the same storage! I will therefore no longer buy bread from Rischart! No matter which branch !!
Good pastry. Upstairs, cheese omelettes and scrambled eggs with ham. Good brunch.
Very bad! Totally bad! You make a national difference! When I asked if I could sit next to the window, the waiter told me that it would only work if I couldn't come alone, but after 10 minutes a German woman sat there alone, and no one said anything! After a bit of time the other waitress told me that I can sit here with the laptop.
Coffee is expensive and not tasty. Awful service!!! Rischart is rischart everywhere.
Service very slow and very confusing, ordered a Spezi and got Espresso and a German lesson in front of everyone how to pronounce right next time so I wouldn't get the wrong order...
I give one star because less is not possible. The rudeness and lack of education of the waitress is something we’ve never experienced before, no wonder why Germany has this reputation.
Great Kaiserschmarren and great drinks - the cappuccino was great too. In addition to the delicious food, there is also a super friendly service. What more could you want - good food, friendly people, good coffee. Point
Never again. When asked whether you can get service here after a long wait, the waitress prefers to clear away the next table. When asked several times, she turns around and rudely replies that she's coming soon. Then she sends a colleague to the table who appears friendly, but still takes sides for his colleague instead of de-escalating with the guests. And the cheesecake was awful.
Amazing place for a beer direct in Marienplatz. 🍺
Very very expensive prices for what you get. I‘ve never seen something quite like that in Germany - almost 5€ for a coffee.. Staff is not even welcoming.
Very nice location. Goulash soup was delicious! And the Kaiserschmarrn is divine. Service very friendly. We recommend!
I have a pastry shop with a café myself and am willing to pay money for quality. Unfortunately, some things don't fit here. The female waitress is very unfriendly, her manner would be reason enough for me to give notice, so you cuddle guests. The male waitress was friendly. My friend was in the toilet and first asked two women behind the counter for directions, there she got the information on this one on the second floor. There she had to throw one euro into a turnstile to go to the toilet, when I asked the waiter why one had to pay one euro as a guest here, he said that there was nothing he could do about that one had to let them know beforehand could get a coin to use the bathroom for free. It's just stupid that my friend asked at the counter and she was not given this information, and where are we here, that, like at school, you first have to let them know if you want to go to the toilet. In times of greatest stress, the waitresses are sure to be happy when you ask them about such a coin. I ordered the "Rischart Klassiker" breakfast with a rich bread basket twice, according to the menu. Quality was ok, but what the baked goods were on is called a plate and not a bread basket. Drinks are not included with breakfast, I ordered a large chocolate and a large coffee with milk for € 5.50 each. Big is relative here and the cups were completely messed up. So, unfortunately, you can't speak of good service, otherwise you would have wiped the cup again before bringing it to the table. So in my opinion the price-performance ratio does not match. Munich is one reason for high prices, but you should be able to expect some service and quality and not just pay for the location. Was here for the first and last time. Next time I'll try another café.
Unfortunately, Rischart is no longer what it was. The branch on Marienplatz upper floor as well as Leopoldstrasse branch disgusting. I ate a cheesecake twice and each time it had a strange taste. The ice was a cheek, it couldn't be more artificial. Very unfair competition from the prices. Tables are often wobbly and dirty. So a cozy afternoon is hardly possible. It used to be different. What a pity.
On Thursday at 9:00 am she had breakfast with her husband, daughter and granddaughter. Were shown to a table immediately. Service was quick and friendly. It was also offered to bring additional plates for the child. Very attentive. Points deducted because the breakfast selection has been greatly reduced since Corona. But what was offered was delicious, well presented and plentiful. The cake counter is still well and attractively stocked. Premises very clean; Disinfectants at the reception (stairs above). From 10 a.m. it got full. Otherwise pleasantly quiet.
Nice to sit on. The apple strudel, the ice cream sundae and the tiramisu were delicious. We'll be back here for sure. To be recommended, even if the prices are a bit high.
The cakes are good as always, the service is though unwelcoming and very slow.
STAY AWAY from this place... make money fooling tourists.. Had to pay twice as the waiter took the paper receipt the first time and started insulting in front of other tourists... COME ON!! if you guys are underpaid is it our fault??? I wouldn't mind donating money but this is really insulting... wish there were minus stars... my visit to this place spoilt my beautiful Munich trip!!!!!!!!!!!!
Breakfast was more then bad old salat and Versengt omelette never again
It sits very well directly opposite the town hall. And with the distance control, you also have some space for yourself. Bretzel was very good. Order went very quickly. I then felt it was a little too long until it came. 10.00 euros not necessarily inexpensive.
Very bad service and very high prices. The politeness of the waiters does not exist. We were waiting 20 minutes to make an order and 30 minutes after to get it. The food is good. If you want to drink and eat in the center of Munich don't go to this cafe.
We are always happy to be here at or in a cafe when we are in Munich. Yes, it is a little more expensive, but the quality and location justify it all. So far everything we drank and consumed was delicious and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Sunny days, rainy days, snowy days, hot summer days, every early morning I walk pass this huge cafe and bakery shop on Marienplatz I see people queuing for bread, cakes and coffee. You will be amazed by the varieties of cakes they offer. Germans only not love “Brötchen” and “Würstchen” but also “Kuchen”. The Schoko-mousse torte tastes wonderfully intense and smooth. And I bet there are many other great choices. But be prepared the sales lady will probably roll her eyes if you speak broken German or cannot decide which one you want. You just have to pick one!! I find most of the German sales ladies are often rough-mannered and intimidating. Definitely not welcoming foreigners, especially tourists! PS, their coffee is quite expensive and very medium quality ( Starbucks’ is better).
Best Kaiserschmarrn & cakes in town! Pretty expensive and touristy tho
Wonderful view of Marienplatz, great service, great quality whether breakfast or afternoon coffee. I can recommend with a clear conscience.
With us the staff was friendly and looked after us well. The prices are indeed steep, but you get very good cakes (pieces could be bigger) and café or hot chocolate. We also really liked the ambience and the view of Marienplatz. You can use it free of charge as a guest, you just have to get a coin from the waitress. In itself it is something special that you don't do every day and we really enjoyed it!
👍🏻
Very, very beautiful. The personal very kind. Perfect view.
Delicious cakes!
“Must try and visit” cakes and bakery in Munich. 1. Because of the location and the stunning view right at the heart of the city 2. Yes, the prices are a bit costly, but you get the newly renovated amazing second floor, option to sit in the patio at the square itself and watch the action at Marienplatz. INSIDER TIP: if you want some calm location with not so much action, there is a small patio from the side of the Saint Peter Church. You just need to cross Richard through inside. Early in the mornings it’s is absolutely not crowded, as well in winter months before end of the working day. 3. The bakery options always include seasonal and local stuff. In summer you might try the bread with Alpine flowers, cakes with the seasonal berries (local strawberries, local currant etc). Also they always have the hot Alpine Milk. My fav personally is Bienenstich cake. It is always a great experience being here.
We went at 30.05 17:30.There were a few people outside. We waited 30 minutes.A chinese waitress came and told us that will come a colleague. At 18:02 came another and told us that the bouffet closes at 18:00.No one informed us before. No respect to the clients!
Lots of variety. Nice place to take breakfast or a coffee
Tasty food 👌
The worst coffee ever ! If you go there do not order any kind of coffee. Cakes are good.
Good
The location is amazing. You can pick up coffee or snacks to go from the counter. If you sit in the restaurant on first floor the prices are expensive However you can have a great view of Marienplatz.
Service 👎
Super delicious Kaiserschmarrn! Best in town! And it comes with various toppings. The view towards the city hall is amazing also, make sure to get a table close to the windows.
Staff is kinda nice can sometimes be overwhelmed by the many tourists and guests However the food is still fine though the price is fairly high for some people Would rate 3.5 if there was possibility for it
Mega location, mega food
Nice branch of the chain. Baked goods
Good sweets
